1987's BEST LIVE ROCK

1987 was a great year for concerts! POISON dazzled you! U2 sold out stadiums! MOTLEY CRUE were up to their old tricks! WHITESNAKE went platinum! MADONNA danced across stages all over the endlessly! On the following pages, ROCK-SHOTS, brings you last year's hottest acts and their greatest performances. 1987's Best Live Rock will make you feel as though you're seeing your favorite bands live all over again!

POISON

Gone are the days Poison was scratching out a living by playing their super-charged sets in the cramped quarters of Los Angeles clubs. Poison began opening for acts like Motley Crue and Bon Jovi and before long they became headliners and their Look What The Cat Dragged In LP went platinum. In 1987, C.C., Bret, Rikki and Bobby administered large doses of their deadly glam rock to willing fans everywhere and became one of the year's hottest live acts!

U2

While Irish lads U2 have garnered their fair share of praise from the critics and fans alike for their live shows in the past, Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen, Jr. took the world by storm in 1987 with an incredible series of sold-out performances in America and Europe that redefined "arena rock." Bono's powerful lyrics and the Edge's ringing, full-bodied guitar work on The Joshua Tree LP made Dublin's finest maintain a dynamic yet intimate stance despite the size of the venues they played. The result was one of the hottest, most impassioned tours ever seen in this country!

MOTLEY CRUE

1987 became yet another highly successful year for Motley Crue. Their Girls, Girls, Girls LP was released and instantly went to the top of the charts for the L.A. metal band. Nobody can argue with the thrill and excitement of Motley Crue's live shows. Anyone who's seen them onstage knows about the fiery, explosive stage set-ups with the rotating cage for Tommy Lee's drumming! Members Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars and Tommy Lee are often dubbed the "Bad Boys Of Rock"-yet there's no doubt about their ability to produce good live rock 'n' roll.

BON JOVI

Although Bon Jovi's rise to fame may seem suddden-the New Jersey native has actually been rockin' for over 10 years! The Slippery When Wet LP sold over 10 million copies last year and Jon, Richie Sambora, Tico Torres, Alec John Such and David Bryan toured for over a year and a half reaching fans all over the world! 1987 was "Bon. Jovi Year." Next up for the group: they'll do it all over again with a new LP!

MADONNA

Add Madonna's name to the list of artists who really know how to set a live audience on fire. The Material Girl thrilled the masses all over the United States on her sold-out Who's That Girl tour last year, then hopped over to Japan and caused a huge new wave of Madonnamania. Her non-stop dancing and numerous costume changes left huge crowds trying to catch their breath, while the fit singer hardly even broke a sweat!

WHITESNAKE

Singer David Coverdale bounced back from a career-threatening illness to front an all-star band in a triumphant tour last year. With the help of bassist Rudy Sarzo (ex-Quiet Riot), guitarists Adrian Vandenburg and Vivian Campbell and drummer Tommy Aldridge, Whitesnake pulled off the impossible-holding their own on tour with the indomitable Motley Crue! Next time out, you can be sure Whitesnake will be where they be-long-as a headlining act!
