THE HEROES OF HEAVY METAL

BEST OF ’87/’88: Their self-titled smash, Whitesnake.

PROFILE: With three stormy years behind him, Coverdale sought a Whitesnake comeback. . .with a vengeance! The most recent incarnation of this rocking reptilian group resulted in the mega-successful Whitesnake LP, thanks to guitarists Adrian Vandenberg and Vivian Campbell, bassist Rudy Sarzo and drummer Tommy Aldridge.

HISTORY: Singer Coverdale fronted the classic metal band Deep Purple for several years. Rudy Sarzo previously played with the seminal group Quiet Riot.

DISCOGRAPHY: Snake Bite (’77), Trouble (’78), Lovehunter (’79), Ready An’ Willing (’80), Live In The Heart Of The City (’81), Slide It In (’84) and Whitesnake (’87).

GREATEST TRAGEDY: Coverdale nearly had to retire from rock ’n’ roll in 1986 when he required surgery for a bad sinus infection that threatened his voice!

QUOTE: “My only responsibility is to the people who keep Whitesnake flying—the fans.”
