THE HEROES OF HEAVY METAL

BEST OF ’87/'88: The mega-successful Slippery When Wet (their third LP) earned eight platinum album awards in the U.S. alone!

More than pretty faces—and more than just leader Jon Bon Jovi—the Bon Jovi has become the band of the ’80s. They are: Jon on vocals, guitarist Richie Sambora, bassist Alec John Such, keyboardist David Bryan and skinbasher Tico Torres.

LATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: Bon Jovi headlined the prestigious Castle Donington Metal Festival in England last year—only two years after appearing at the event as the opening act!

NON-ACCOMPLISHMENT: Jon has turned down movie roles and two offers to appear on Miami Vice so he can concentrate on his career with the band.

FORMER OCCUPATION: When Jon was 18 years old, he was sweeping floors for a recording studio. It was there that he met mentors Mick Jagger and Southside Johnny.

MOONLIGHTING: Jon and Richie have spending some of their free time writing songs for acts as diverse as Charlie Sexton, Loverboy, Ted Nugent, Belinda Carlisle and even Cher. HAIRSTYLIST: Jon’s father, Jort Bongiovi Sr.

HOBBY: “I like to play with my cars,’ sez Jon. He has two classic Camaros, a j ’58 Corvette and a Jeep.

PET PEEVE: Despite his pin-up image, Jon hates being called a “sex symbol.’

QUOTE: “I guess I’m having the sue cess I’m having right now because ! I started at a real early age to learn my craft. I’ve worked hard for it and I’m still working hard for it, and that’s why I’m here!”
