1987 also saw the emergence of an exciting new offshoot—the energetic, unpredictable thrash metal. Spearheaded by Metallica and Megadeth, speedmetal crossed over from underground status to mass appeal and added a whole new dimension to the genre in 1987, promising to be one of the driving forces keeping metal alive and kicking in 1988!
