Blacula, already a smash hit, is just the first black version of suspense-horror movies AIP is producing. Sammy Davis, Jr. may do Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and producer Jack Naar is talking to Muhammad AH’s lawyers about a remake of a horror classic starring the Muslim mauler — it’s possible, if there is no sex in the picture. AIP’s 100th movie, Blackenstein, will be released at Christmas.

Porno Deep Throat might not be making money because of seizures and freebies but the crowds are big. 5% of the audience is made up of off-duty cops, judges and, in New York, UN officials. They flash their credentials or passes and they’re in free. The National Catholic Office gave it a C (Condemned) rating, saying: “First hardcore porno feature to receive a sophisticated national promotional campaign., reaching respectable urban and suburban theatres. Beware, it is not about cough remedies.”

Reefer Madness has struck NYC’s Bleeker St. Theatre and is spreading to 193 college affiliates of Video Tape Network. The 1936 documentary about the evils of marijuana is being handled by R.K.S. Films. It may be in your town soon. Watch for it.

British censors won’t pass Blindman unless five cuts involving Ringo Starr are made. The cuts would virtually eliminate Ringo from the movie. Ringo commented: “I’d like my mother to have seen it.”
