SCI-FI GUY
Claudio from Coheed and Cambria tries to out-dork us

There is nothing quite as fulfilling as meeting someone who is as much of a dork as you are. It’s a validation of all the nerddom, the fuckery that comes with knowing all the characters, storylines, side tales, backstories, and intricacies that only a true fan would consume. I may have met my match with Claudio Sanchez, frontman of proggy hard rockers Coheed and Cambria and creator of comics such as The Amory Wars. On a fine afternoon at his home in Brooklyn, Sanchez and I dorked out about his favorite possessions, characters, and pursuits, some of which have informed the band’s 30-year run, digging into an array of stuff ranging from sci-fi to comics to synths and on and on. The results of our conversation are below, but warning: This is some true nerd hours ahead.
I’m guessing that your sci-fi journey started with Star Wars.
As far as sci-fi and space-ish stuff, probably that and Masters of the Universe. That’s another thing I collect a lot of, which is actually in storage downstairs. That was big for me back when Saturdaymorning cartoons were a thing.
