Resurrection BACK WHERE HE BELONGS
Richard Ashcroft on his new LP, tending to his legacy, and those raucous Oasis dates

Is there a more iconic ’90s video than the Verve’s “Bitter Sweet Symphony”? Shaggy-haired frontman Richard Ashcroft walks down the street, shoulder-checking passersby violently and nonchalantly, singing, “I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down/You know the one that takes you to the places where all the veins meet, yeah." The song was a massive hit in the U.S., leading Urban Hymns to classic album status, critical success, and booming sales worldwide.
But Ashcroft is no one-hit wonder, as both the Verve and his solo work have been consistent sellers and fan favorites, leading to a support slot on Oasis’ 2025 U.K. victory lap. Those shows saw him play to bulging crowds and much fanfare, reminding all of the previously passive to dive back into his older solo LPs and Verve records.
And now Louin’ You, his seventh solo LP, is out, so we talked to the U.K. singersongwriter about his time with Oasis, his relationship with the fans, and his favorite Nas song. In the immortal words of John Brannon, “Check it out!"
