Punch The Clock
BACK STAGE DIRT
Anika dishes on working at a music festival.

When I found out that Anika got herself banned from the Haldern Pop Festival at age 19, I fully prepared myself for tales of exploding toilets, ransacked greenrooms, and maybe even a stolen car. The festival, started in part by Anika’s aunt and uncle, has continually attracted big names since 1984. Surely, as a teenager working a festival, anyone would have jumped at the chance to dabble in some backstage debauchery.
“I’ve forgotten some of the stuff that did happen,” she admits. “There were a few extra rock ’n’ roll incidents. You know, love, drugs, alcohol, and everything else. I remember being offered drugs, and I would say no. It wasn’t my thing. I was there for the music.”
Probably for the best. But if it didn’t involve any illicit substances, then how does one get banned from a rock ’n’ roll production?
“I didn’t do anything wrong,” she maintains. “It got warped through the telling of the villagers. By the time it got back to my auntie and uncle, they told me off for something I didn’t even do."
