The CREEM Archive presents the magazine as originally created. Digital text has been scanned from its original print format and may contain formatting quirks and inconsistencies.

WRENNE EVANS, PHOTOGRAPHER

Born and raised in the land of Dollywood, L.A.based Wrenne Evans isn’t so Hollywood-bound these days: Her job as a touring documentarian takes her to exotic destinations like London, Paris, and Moon Township, PA. You can take the girl out of Nashville (her hometown), but not the Southern roots out of the girl—Evans is often spotted zooming down Franklin Avenue in Los Feliz blasting country classics by Rascal Flatts. Because life, or rather, Franklin Avenue, is her highway. Evans hopes to edge into acting as another avenue in her life’s main ambition: to disappoint her parents.

MARTIN SORRONDEGUY, WRITER-PHOTOGRAPHER

A photographer once wrote, "I took all these pics at a show and this fucking dude [meaning Sorrondeguy] got in the way of all my photos.” He’s been in bands and documenting the punk scene for over 36 years. He has three photography books that were released in the past 10 years, and he continues to shoot and play music in his free time. He runs Art Punk Kill, an Instagram page where he shares flyers from his personal archive, and Canal Irreal is his current band. At 55 years of age he has no interest in quitting this shit.

MAXELLE TALENA, WRITER

A high school dropout, former drug addict, and recovering hardcore kid from New York City; The New York Times once described her as “less affluent.” Along with Molly Zapruder and Louis [redacted], she is one-third of Dysphoria Dimes, a transgendered parasocial podcast by hot people for hot people. Her writing is featured in the Alexander Heir retrospective WARRR2K°°// WORK 2015-17, as well as the 1997 PS 321 elementary school winter poetry collection. She is currently working on memoir/fiction pieces; the genre is TBD—based on how poorly the narrator comes across.

BRIAN TURNER, WRITER

Brian Turner is a radio creator in Brooklyn and current host of the online free-form Brian Turner Show. He programmed/musicdirected WFMU previously. Writing creds includes liners for the Fall, Sonic Youth, and Circle, as well as pieces for The New York Times, Bull Tongue, and The Wire. He has played guitar with the Mad Scene, Jowe Head, and Ass, and wants to start a new band called Mr. Big Peloton Death, if anyone needs a gig. Discogs claims he produced a Beyonce song and played with Mick Hucknall, so why not just run with that here?

EDWINA HAY, PHOTOGRAPHER

Edwina Hay has been attending concerts in Brooklyn since the late ’90s—she was born there, which means she has more street cred than you. At some point in the intervening years, she decided to bring her camera to the DIY venues she frequents and, well, she never stopped. Over the years, her work has appeared online and in print at publications like Rolling Stone, Gawker, The Boston Phoenix, and now this one, which means she’ll have to explain what CREEM is to her mom. Fuhgeddaboudit!

HUGH MCKINNON, ILLUSTRATOR

An illustrator/cartoonist/artist from the country town of Orange, Australia (yes, to all you music aficionados, that is the same town where Murray the red Wiggle grew up), Hugh McKinnon has been CREEM’s go-to Boy Howdy! conjurer since our beloved mascot jolted back to life; time and again, he captures our spokesbottle’s blend of charm and depravity. His work is influenced by Bronze Age comics and the fear of a real job. His most listened-to artists at this time include Frank Zappa, Barbra Streisand, and Korn. His fiancee is not letting him pick the music for their wedding.
