JOAN JETT

When it comes to the world of pop entertainment, it appears that Joan Jett is a real queen of all trades! As has been well documented numerous times in the past, Joan was an original member of the Runaways, Kim Fowley’s group of L.A. teenage rock ’n’ roll vixens. When the Runaways had run their course, no one predicted a big future for any of the band’s former members. But someone who loved rock ’n’ roll as much as Joan does couldn’t be kept out of the spotlight for long!

Joan hooked up with her current manager, Kenny Laguna—and, ironically, it was a song titled “I Love Rock ’N’ Roll” (a hit for Gary Glitter in England) that broke Joan bigger than she’d ever been with the Runaways. Joan had an opening slot on the Police’s final mammoth tour—and she sold out clubs and halls on her own throughout this country and Europe.

Following three successful LPs with MCA—/ Love Rock 'AT Roll, Album and Glorious Tales Of A Misspent Youth— Joan signed with CBS Records which created her own Blackhead label (the Blackheads, of course, are the name of Joan’s terrific band). She’s released one LP, Good Music for the company—but Joan’s biggest success has been as the co-star of the recent rock film, Light Of Day. Directed by Paul Schrader (of Taxi Driver fame), Joan played a rock ’n’ roll singer, of course. Although the film didn’t do the greatest at the box office, most critics raved when it came to Joan’s performance—no small feat when one considers she was sharing the screen with Michael J. Fox and Gena Rowlands!

Joan Jett—rock star/movie star. Not bad for a gal who was once said to have ‘‘no future”!
