HEART
The Wilson sisters—the official stars of Heart—have had a long, checkered career. During the early '70s, the Wilsons led one of the hottest bar bands in the Canadian provinces, doing their originals with a lot of Led Zeppelin covers. (In fact, the Heart crew still occasionally perform the Zep’s “Rock ’N’ Roll” during their live shows.)

The Wilson sisters—the official stars of Heart—have had a long, checkered career. During the early '70s, the Wilsons led one of the hottest bar bands in the Canadian provinces, doing their originals with a lot of Led Zeppelin covers. (In fact, the Heart crew still occasionally perform the Zep’s “Rock ’N’ Roll” during their live shows.) This was the era before the Bangles, the Go-Go’s, etc., so to see the lovely Nancy Wilson on guitar—cranking it out—and sis Ann belting out those Robert Plant inspired vocals... well, let’s just say it was quite a sight to see.
Heart broke out with their debut LP, Dreamboat Annie, on the small Mushroom label. The LP spawned two massive hits, the title track and the haunting “Crazy For You.” After much legal action, the band went to Portrait (and later ended up on Epic). Towards the end of the '80s, their career took a bit of a nosedive. It seemed like a new game plan was needed.
With a new band—including Mark Andes who use to play with Firefall, among others—the band signed with Capitol. They changed their image a little bit, goipg from the wholesome look to the metal mistresses their videos conveyed so well. And their self-titled LP hit the top of the charts.
Well, they’re riding a crest, and it looks like the Wilsons & Heart are back for more of the same with Bad Animals and the new hook-laden single, “Alone.”
It looks like there’ll be no Heartbreak soon for this rockin’ crew of merry funmakers!
