GENESIS
Genesis began touring shortly after they released their latest album, Invisible Touch, in 1986. It was their first collaboration for quite a while—Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks had been working on their solo careers.
In the fall of 1985, they met at The Farm, their private studio in Surrey England, and started working on their new album, using group improvisation. This kind of cooperative effort has always worked best for Genesis. Tony explains: "In many ways, we have felt that over the years, the strongest Genesis songs were always the ones we all did together. The advantage of it is that everybody feels equally involved in every song, so everybody is equally proud of every song. There is absolutely no song on the new album, not even a piece;of a song really, that would have been the way it is if all three of us hadn't been in the room together."
Phil and Mike agree that Invisible Touch is like nothing they've ever done before, and are happy about the positive feedback. “We had a great time doing it." says Phil. “There was a lot of laughing. I hope the energy and freshness we felt comes over on the record. I think the songs are a lot stronger than on the last album." With this combination of cooperation and fun, their next album promises to be even better!
