Belinda Carlisle Go-Go's It Alone

Belinda Carlisle perches on the chair in her hotel room. "I think the Go-Go's did do a lot a help bands like the Bangles," she says. "But, then were other girl groups before us who helped the Go-Go's."

a songfest guaranteed to reclaim the commercial glory of the Go-Go's and establish Belinda as a happenin' solo artist. (Of course, she was helped out by erstwhile ex-Go-Go Charlotte Caffey, who not only played guitar on the album, but wrote many of the songs...and a host of superstar studio guests like Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles and Andy "He's such a great guy!" Taylor of Duran Duran.)

Belinda isn't looking back, though. "The Go-Go's weren't fun anymore," she states quite honestly. "It was time to try something new."

And that she's done—not only on vinyl, with hitbound songs like "Mad About You" and "Shot In The Dark," but in her personal life. The singer—who admits that actress Ann Margaret has been her biggest inspiration (just check out the cover of Belinda!)—candidly admits to having an alcohol problem which, with help, she's licked. And she recently married Morgan Mason (son of actor James Mason)—a guy who was once the youngest Chief Of Protocol in White House history!

It looks like 1986 will indeed be a year Belinda Carlisle will remember fondly. And, judging from her album and tour, which has 'em dancing in the aisles, so will her fans!
