A-HA ONSTAGE AT LAST?
Having become veritable musical superstars without the benefit of performing live (quite a trick, that!), A-Ha were finally seen by American fans—although it certainly wasn’t part of a tour. No, the long-awaited appearance was at this year’s Grammy Awards show, where—in addition to star-studded performances by the likes of Huey Lewis & The News, Starship and Stevie Wonder—the synth-laden trio from Norway took the stage to perform their smash hit single from last year, “Take On Me.”
A-HA ONSTAGE AT LAST?
Having become veritable musical superstars without the benefit of performing live (quite a trick, that!), A-Ha were finally seen by American fans—although it certainly wasn’t part of a tour.
No, the long-awaited appearance was at this year’s Grammy Awards show, where—in addition to star-studded performances by the likes of Huey Lewis & The News, Starship and Stevie Wonder—the synth-laden trio from Norway took the stage to perform their smash hit single from last year, “Take On Me.” And—for those critics who’ve hinted A-Ha is only a studio wonder—the performance must’ve certainly been a surprise, as Morten, Pal and Mags knocked off a stunningly faithful rendition of the tune.
A-Ha, of course, were nominated for “Best New Artist”— along with Freddie Jackson, Katrina & The Waves, Julian Lennon and Sade. And, although the eventual winner was Sade, few would deny that A-Ha was a strong contender in the crowded field.
The performance also strengthened speculation as to when A-Ha would tour: certainly their charismatic stage presence would bring the fans out in droves, especially with their appetites whetted by the TV appearance.
