WHAT’S NEXT FOR DAVID LEE ROTH?
“Solitude is a very sweet drug,” David Lee Roth said not long ago— and it looks like he means to prove it. In the wake of his departure from Van Halen (see page 40 for the latest on the Roth-less VH), though, the question is: what can the wildly creative Roth do to top his own act?

WHAT’S NEXT FOR DAVID LEE ROTH?
“Solitude is a very sweet drug,” David Lee Roth said not long ago— and it looks like he means to prove it. In the wake of his departure from Van Halen (see page 40 for the latest on the Roth-less VH), though, the question is: what can the wildly creative Roth do to top his own act?
For now, the answer seems to lie in making his first full-length film, Crazy From The Heat. The movie, which will be filmed in L.A. and an unnamed tropical location, has been described as a “hellefied comedy.” As one insider in the Roth camp put it to ROCK-SHOTS: “Dave is Dave like you’ve never seen him before.” Which is saying plenty. Filming will begin this month; look for a late ’86 release—and a soundtrack album; Nile Rodgers is scoring the film.
In other Dave doings, the man of a million talents hasn’t given up on music, either. He’s put together a new group with flashy guitarist Steve Vai (who’s played with Frank Zappa), bassist Billy Sheehan (ex of Talas) and drummer Greg Bissonette, a relative newcomer. Word is that rough tapes of the asyet-unnamed group sound something like...Van Halen. Hmmm.
