NOTE-WORTHY!

Is it the biggest news of the decade? That’s hard to say. But when word came that David Lee Roth was leaving Van Halen, more than a few eyebrows were raised in skepticism Halen without David Lee Roth? Why that’s like a baloney sandwich without the bread!

Well, like it or not, it’s time to eat that sandwich! Replacing Van Halen’s outrageous lead crooner is none other than Sammy Hagar, American rocker and superoatriot! While David Lee Roth goes off on a new solo career, it looks like it’s Mr. Hagar’s turn to mind the Van Halen vocal-store—and lots of people are wondering if he’ll oe able to—pardon the pun—“cut the mustard”or not!

Hagar, a controversial but certainly charismatic bluesoased bellower, first came to prominence with Montrose, a mid-’70s heavy metal band featuring guitarist Ronnie Montrose. After leaving Montrose to begin his own solo areer, Hagar eventually made big news with his “I Can’t Drive 55”—a powerful musico-political statement aimed Jat the highest levels of American government! Hagar’s fascination with the inner working of the American jovernment continued with his dramatic appearance at arm Aid, where he-

with guitarist Eddie Van Halennade several moving appeals to all of America to onsider the tragic plight of the farmer. Will he controversy continue with the new an Halen? Only time will tell!
