After all the info provided by the fine writers in this Close-Up, we’re rapidly coming to the conclusion that it's pointless to suggest that, say, the Yardbirds or Cream were actually “better” bands than current greats like the Scorpions or Grim Reaper! Hey, the bottom line is that it’s all rock ’n’ roll! And, in fact—we now have conclusive proof that none of those so-called “ '60s bands” actually existed! How can this be, you’re asking? Well, think about it for a minutehave you ever met anyone who saw the Yardbirds? Or Cream? Or Hendrix? OF COURSE NOT! And if they say they have, then...they’re lying! Of course, you may have your doubts. So, just to show you we’re right, here’s a brief poll we took at presstime! People of all races, creeds and colors were asked the following question: WHEN DID HEAVY METAL MUSIC REALLY BEGIN? Here are a few of the most notable responses!:
