For the first time in their 14-year career, Jethro Tull & recording an album with an outside producer. Beastie is being produced by former j Yardbird Paul Samwell-Smith, who has previously worked with artists like Cat Stevens and Paul Simon. Appice has also been touring America sponsoring a combination Drum Clinic Competition" and superstar jam sessions for UNICEF. In Detroit, he was joined onstage by Ted Nugent, Dave Gilbert and Jim McCarty of the Rockets, and Petey Bankert of Mugsy for art Impromptu 90 minute set. Unfortunately, Gilbert suffered a broken hand when he jumped from his guitar amp, but still said it was worth it." Stevie Wonder is producing the new LP by pop reggae band, Third World. Wonder began a friendship with the band at last Kill summers Sunsplash festival, in Jamaica, and he penned the LP's title track Jah Love." Stevie is also launching his own record label, Wonderection, which will be distributed by CBS.

Good news for David Bowie fans. The carrot-topped Thin White Duke has several projects heading our way during the next several months. On the film front, Bowie will be portraying a vampire opposite Catherine Deneuve in the film version of Whitley Sheibers The Hunger.. .In musical film news, RCA will release Christianne F [Children Of The Bahnhof], a soundtrack LP to the German film in which Bowie performs a live version of Station To Station." Meanwhile, Brace Gary is currently drumming with Jack Brace & Friends, replacing Billy Cobham who has resumed a solo, career, while Dong Fieger is still trying to figure out why the little girls didnt understand.. .In other band personnel changes, the Psychedelic Furs are now a four-piece band, following the amicable departures of Duncan Kilbura (sax and keyboards) and Roger Morris (guitar). The two men want to pursue their own projects, and Kilburn is said to be writing some very different sounding material." The remaining Furs are currently recording a new LP for CBS.

Due to recerit inactivity on the part of Brace Springsteen (Hey, cmon, the guy's gotta rest sometime!). several members of his E Street Band are currently •. involved in solo projects. Guitarist Miami Steve Van Zandt is v

working on a solo LP at the Power Station in New York. Most of the E Street Band are on hand, with the exception of Roy Bittan, whos busy with ether session work. The album is also being complemented by the horn section of the Asbury Jukes. In the meantime, big mam Clarence Clemons has started an R&B band which has been playing numerous gigs on the East Coast. Clemons band features Harvey Brooks, who once played bass with Mike Bloomfield and Buddy Miles in the Electric Flag during the mid-60s.
