1. HOW TO ENTER. On the front of this entry blank, or on a four-inch by eight-inch piece of plain paper, PRINT or TYPE your name, address (including ZIP CODE) telephone number (including area code) and AGE (if you are a group, give such information for all members) and the exact titles of the two songs being submitted by you. Mail the entry blank or paper to CREEM at its address shown below, accompanied by an audio-cassette recording of two songs created and performed by you, and a picture of the entrant(s)—it doesn't have to be anything fancy. No entry will be considered by the judges which omits any of the written information set forth above . No entry will be considered by the judges which is submitted in a form other than audiocassette recording (any commercial brand of audio tape cassette is acceptable but the quality of reproduction is the sole responsibility of the entrant). No entry will be considered by the judges which contains more than two songs or less than two songs. No entry will be considered by the judges where the aggregate playing time of the two songs submittec is greater than six minutes as computed by CREEM. Only one entry per person or group will be considered—if you enter as part of a group, you may not also enter individually or as part of another group. All entries must be mailed—no personal deliveries please!

2. YOUR OWN STUFF. All songs (words and music) entered must be written and created by the person or persons submitting the entry. All entrants by submission of an entry shall be deemed to grant to CREEM a non-exclusive right to record the songs in the entry mechanically as recorded by the entrant and to distribute such mechanical reproduction for CREEM's promotional purposes. All winners shall by submission of an entry be deemed to grant to CREEM and to the Company contributing the prize the non-exclusive right to use his/her/their name(s) and likeness(es) for promotional purposes in connection with this contest and CREEM Magazine. CREEM shall not be responsible for obtaining or maintaining copyright or other legal protection of any entry or portion thereof.

3. AGE. Because of legal requirements, all entrants must be at least eighteen years of age on or before February 28,1978 in order to win. All entrants must reside within one of fifty states of the United States. ..

4. NO PROFESSIONALS. No entry will be considered by the judges if the entrant or any member thereof has previously signed a recording contract or made a recording with any record company or is in the process of negotiating such a contract on February 28, 1978.' CREEM's determination as to these matters shall be final.

5. ALL ENTRIES BECOME THE PROPERTY OF CREEM. All cassettes submitted shall become the sole property of CREEM and none will be returned. Subject to the non-exclusive license granted to CREEM in paragraph 2 of these Official Rules, all songs submitted shall remain the property of the entrants. Entrants are solely responsible for all claims and damages arising out of CREEM's dissemination of such songs, as, for example, for claims of other creators of music that part of any song was copied or stolen from works written by such other creators, and all entrants, by submission of their entries, shall be deemed tohave agreedto hold CREEM harmless from all such claims.

6. HOW TO MAIL THE ENTRIES. All completed entries (written material plus cassette) must be mailed, U.S. Mail, all postage prepaid, to: CREEM Magazine Rock Star Contest, P.O. Box P-1064, Birmingham, Michigan 48012. All entries must be received by CREEM no later than the close of CREEM's business on February 28,1978. CREEM cannot be responsible for loss or damage to entries in the mail or for delays in mail delivery. Entrants are advised to keep a duplicate cassette in the forrrhentered for their own records.

7. JUDGING. All properly received entries will be judged by a panel of judges selected by CREEM which will include recording industry professionals. Judging will be on the basis of originality and artistic merit of compositions, originality and artistic merit of performance thereof, and musical "presence." Judging will be completed not later than sixty days following the close of entries and winners will be notified by CREEM by mail. All decisions by the Panel of Judges will be final.

8. PRIZES. The Grand Prize Winner will receive, within 6 months after determination of the Grand Prize Winner, one ARP 2600 Synthesizer. In addition, CREEM will arrange for uptofour hours of recording studio time for the Winner, at a professional sound recording studio, selected by CREEM, which is nearest to the Winner's home, including the supervisional services of one commercially experienced record producer during such period. The Grand Prize Winner will receive the master tape produced at such session, of which CREEM will make copies. CREEM will use its reasonable efforts to have such copies auditioned by A&R personnel of one or more major record companies who are assigned to listen to such demonstration copies. The Winners shall be solely responsible for having prepared and rehearsed all material proposed to be recorded prior to such recording session and for bringing all required arrangements, instruments and other equipment to the session. CREEM cannot promise any Grand Prize Winner that any record company will be interested in the recording circulated by CREEM or will contact or sign any Grand Prize Winner to a contract—all such matters are solely between the Grand Prize Winner and the record companies. CREEM only agrees to try to get the tape audited.

9. OTHER PRIZES. The judges will also select a Second Prize Winner, a Third Prize Winner, a Fourth Prize Winner and a Fifth Prize Winner. The Second Prize Winner will receive one set of Gretsch Grand Prix drums, Model 4021, which will be shipped directly to the winner. The Third Prize Winner will receive one Marlboro Sound Works Bass Amplification System consisting of one (1) Model 1500B Amp Head, one (1) Model P200W Power Amp Booster and three (3) Model LS15B Bass Speaker Systems, which will be shipped to the Marlboro dealer nearest to the Winner, to be picked up there by the Winner. The Fourth Prize Winner will receive one Hagstrom Swede Guitar, Model HG803, in natural finish, with case, which will be shipped directly to the Winner. The Fifth Prize Winner will receive two (2) DiMarzio pickups for each stringed instrument player which is a part of the Winner, with prizes to be shipped to and installed free of charge by the DiMarzio dealer nearest the Winner. All Winners will be notified of shipping arrangements in writing. All prizes will be awarded. No substitute prizes will awarded. No prizes will be redeemed for cash. No prizes will be awarded to any person, firm or corporation other than that listed on the entry blank. The odds of winning any prize will be determined by the number of entries received.
