BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD

(March 1966 — May 1968) Discography: Buffalo Springfield; Buffalo Springfield Again; last Time Around; plus two compilations: Retrospective; Buffalo Springfield (includes previously unreleased version of “Bluebird" with abysmal reworking of the coda). AH are on Atco. As They Were (left to right) Dewey Martin (current whereabouts unknown); Furay; Steve Stills; Bruce Palmer (current whereabouts unknown); Neil Young.

Poco

(November 1968 — present)

Formed by Rklue Furay and one-time Springfield producer and later bass player (also wrote and sang one song on final LP) Jim Messina. The band has yet to go huge. Messina quit to join Kenny Loggins in late 70 and -in fall 73 Furay left also.

Crosby, Stills & Nash

(December 1968 — June 1969)

StHls hooked up with ex-Byrd David Crosby and Hollies' former lead singer Graham Nash to form this supergroup and make one LP before adding to fineup.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse

(January 1969 — present, intermittently)

After a solo LP Young took on this group,-orginaly the Rockets, to record and four. The lineup changed several times, most dramatically with the OD documented on Tonight's the Might.

Souther, Hillman, Furay Band

(September 1973 - April 1971)

Chris HiHman came from the Byrds and Burritos, J.D. Souther was a solo, and Furay from Poco — they were going to be the next supergroup ... Personality clashes aggravated by failure to gain wealth and fame split them up.

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

(June 1969 — present?)

One more turbulent personality, Young, added to this established if new supergroup remarkably didn't break It up.Tliniy recorded again, toured, waxed a live set, toured again after a 4 year break, and as early as last winter laid down some studio tracks, which we may never hear, but then again .

So while it's trim thut Young and Stils ølgbt re-activate CSN&Y at any time, they and Furay are basicaNy solos now. But note all the talk in the following Interviews about var ious re-groupings and further note that the name Buffalo Springfield pops up with surprising frequency. It might lust be that it's hard to forget such a group. I mean that collective mu~c did produce three brilliant rock `n' roll sibums - far superior to anything any one member has done since - that incorporated elements.of country, jau, soul, musique con. crete, and classical music long before rock reflected such diversity as the Average White Band, Eagles, ELO and Weather Report. Then again It might be so hard!o forget such a rouo tbatthev~!reJ1iinkuia of autlina Itbackiosetheriwlnce). Then aosin.. .wshL reuton.. Wsiust oneoftbethinasilwviulk about.
