MAT WALDRON — On Stmaway {Mb)u Waldron is becoming less of ajar pianist and more of a classicist. While not one of his stronger sessions, this is still real good, and is his first American album in longer than 1 care to think. .' Superb performances by Eddie "Cleanhead” Vinson, lay McShann,and Lloyd Glenn* -who are more jump-blues than Oucago^style or country-style bluesmen - are the standouts, but the rest of the. artists do quite well, too. A revelation, perhaps. /
WAYLON JENNINGS - Only Daddy That’ll Walk The Lh*e (RCA CuMn)n Another. 1 Camden goodie, this one featuring some of Waylon’s early material. Side one Is rockflavored, and Side Two is country-flavored. My preference lies with side one. and the, lyrics to "Nashville Bum” are worth the (low) price of the album.
