PAPER MOON (Paramount) — Yes, yes, Tatum O'Neal outshines her dad. But that's not hard especially if you're the antithesis of Shirley Temple. As soon as she opens her sassy mouth 15 minutes into Bogdonovich's latest nostalgic binge we're captured. But Tatum's talents aren't limited to acting.

In the movie, she out-cons Bible toting Ryan who is always his best as the worst. And the way she drags on her Lucky Strikes puts Cybil Shepard to shame.
SCARECROW (Warner Bros.) — Winner of the Cannes Film Festival, this is a middleclass rather than oddball Midnight Cowboy. Two wayfaring characters on their way to open Maxeys Car Wash in Philly visit Denver, Detroit bars and jail. A1 Pacino plays a scarecrow who gives soberhead Gene Hackman a sense of Humor and keeps us birds laughing. There are lots of incredible scenes like a psychotic baptism, homosexual encounter and a 20 layer strip tease by Max. Dont ignore this sleeper.
