Carl Wilson vs. The S.S.

LOS ANGELES — A three judge panel is reviewing Beach Boy Carl Wilson’s claim as a conscientious objector. The panel is to rule whether Wilson will serve as a bedpan orderly or perform in U.S. installations, hospitals and prisons over a period of two years “ten days a month”.

Selective Service had ordered Carl to serve as a bedpan cleaner two years ago; he refused and offered to provide meaningful entertainment (his phrase) wherever the Government desired. At that time a jury ruled that Wilson had to serve as an orderly.

Beach Boys’ attorney, Nicholas Grillo, said that the jury handed down its decision in 18 minutes and allegedly never read Wilson’s counteroffer.

The Appeal Court is expected to rule within 30 days. Carl is presently touring England with the Beach Boys.
