FEARLESS FOSDICK

October 1, 1970
AL CAPP

The CREEM Archive presents the magazine as originally created. Digital text has been scanned from its original print format and may contain formatting quirks and inconsistencies.

Left: Al Capp’s Fearless Fosdick from his Wildroot Cream Oil period.

Right: A Bill Elder parody of the Fosdick ads. Notice that Elder works in supporting characters from both Li’l Abner and Dick Tracy. He also throws in Daddy Warbucks and Henry for good measure. Elder’s Fosdick is virutally indistinguishable from Capp’s.

Middle: Superduperman and Captain Marbles are drawn by Wallace Wood for MAD No. 4. Both are drawn much better than their “real”counterparts which kind of takes the edge off. Wood’s tour de force was a giant panorama rip-off depicting all the Walt Disney characters in an orgy of depraved acts. This masterpiece may be found in issue No. 74 of Paul Krassner’s Realist.

Bottom: Bill Elder again with his more typical version of America’s typical teenager. Where did he get those criss-cross marks on his head?
