THE BEATLES

Many people claim that the Beatles were the greatest rock 'n' roll band of all time. And there aren't a whole lot of people who'd argue with that claim. Unfortunately. the tragic death of John Lennon on December 8, 1980 made it impossible for the Beatles to ever really reunite like the Monkees and other '60s acts have done during the past several years.

How long, you might ask. can an act sustain on its legend alone? Well, when it comes to the Fab Four, the answer appears to be: a mighty long time. The Beatles get played on the radio constantly. MTV recently began rerunning the old Beatles cartoon series from the mid-’60s for a whole new generation, as well as videos of the great group in action! Help!-the band's second feature film-has just been released on video (A Hard Day's Night, their first, has already been available for years).

As if all this isn't enough, the Beatles recently made it into the news again big time when Capitol Records began releasing the entire Beatles catalog on compact disc. The label is releasing the records as they originally appeared in England (the British and American LPs actually were different in both countries up to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band). Earlier this year, Capitol released With The Beatles, A Hard Day's Night and Beatles For Sale. Just recently, they released Help!, Rubber Soul and Revolver. This summer, Sgt. Pepper's will be released on the 20th anniversary of that record's original release date-with the rest of the records to follow.

Who knows? It could even kick off another Summer Of Love"!
