Yes, hot on the heels of Roger’s departure, it is now widely rumored that Andy Taylor—he of the brilliant guitar work for D2 and the Power Station—will also be leaving the Durans.

In Roger’s case, a spokesman said the likeable drummer was "suffering from mental and physical exhaustion,” brought on, no doubt, by the grueling Duran Duran schedule. He has definitely been replaced on their upcoming album by Steve Ferrone. For now, Andy says he plans on "fulfilling his lifetime ambition of running a farm” for awhile, adding that he does anticipate returning to the fold after recuperating.

Andy, meanwhile, acknowledges that he’s continuing to expand his horizons beyond the Duran realm, but insists that people shouldn’t take that to mean he’s actually quitting. "I have to maintain a musical double life,” he said in reference to the rumors sweeping London. "For a person with the sort of ambitions I have, it would be impossible to stay in Duran Duran without pursuing other musical interests.” Andy’s ambition, of course, was partially realized with the Power Station, but it remains unclear as to whether or not his comments are actually a backhanded swipe. In any case, it looks like—as Randy Newman once wryly observed—there’s "trouble in paradise.” Can D2 stay together in the face of personal problems and ambition? Stay tuned!
