If it’s not out now, it soon will be. Van Halen’s latest album, that is. Featured on it will be Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, and Michael Anthony; of course, that’s always been the case.

he big surprise, however, is the absence of David Lee Roth—for many the heart of Van Halen, the group’s former lead singer is now out n his own, establishing a solo career, making novies and more. Replacing him is Sammy jar, a singer/guitarist with a distinguished eer in his own right. Hagar, a former member |he rock band Montrose in the ’70s, is perhaps known for his hit “I Can’t Drive 55.” Will Halen be the same? We’ll soon see.

^nwhile, let’s hear what the band members to say:

Vs a very serious musician. And if I may get ous for one second, in my opinion, even though my brother, I must say that Ed is the kummate musician. He wants to play music, ]that is what his whole life revolves around.” [ex Van Halen

[is is finally a band. It’s four people who w making music together—and, believe me, the Itive energy that flows among the four of us is Vralleled, unequalled, unsurpassed by body who walks on this round ball called the let Earth. ’’—Alex Van Halen

“The freedom of being a solo artist is to tour when I want, to make a record when I want, write a song when I want, rehearse when I want, you know? Now we have to discuss everything. ’’—Sammy Hagar

“I think the press gets little bits and pieces sometimes and makes their own interpretations of what really is. Just so they can fill the page and they can get their salary for the week. ”

—Alex Van Halen

“Look at the Sex Pistols, man. They were on the cover of every magazine imaginable—and they only sold about 75,000 records throughout their career. ’’—Edward Van Halen

“All our relatives say the same thing—you haven’t made it until you’ve been on Johnny Carson. ’’—Michael Anthony

“I play the way I play—and I like it if people like it. ’’—Edward Van Halen

“It’s fun to work with other people and it’s good exercise—it’s like sparring with other musicians, you know? I like to do that a lot, too. But there’s nothing like a band. ’’—Sammy Hagar
