TEARS FOR FEARS: KWIK KWOTES!

They came from England and, at first, not many people knew of them. But by the end of 1985, Tears For Fears became one of the best-known bands in the world. Songs From The Big Chair, their immensely successful second album, is the reason why. Curt Smith and Roland Orzabel have made quite a few new friends. Some observations they’ve made:

“We have our own aims and our own ambitions, and selling a lot of records is not the end of it. ”

“I don’t think The Hurting was very preachy. I think Songs From The Big Chair is more preachy. ”

“We got signed, funnily enough, on the basis of two songs—and we’d only done two demos. One was a finished master, “Suffer The Children.” And then they signed us then and there, on the basis of that. Which was quite uncommon. ”

“We wanted to be a duo. And at the time, it was kind of a weird thing to do—because we’d always been in bands. And always played live. And the idea of a duo not playing live is kind of...not that exciting. But that’s what we did. ”
