Beach Boys Contest
The following ain’t a quiz, exactly.
The CREEM Archive presents the magazine as originally created. Digital text has been scanned from its original print format and may contain formatting quirks and inconsistencies.
If you finished the Beach Boys story in this issue — or even if you didn’t — you probably have churned up thousands of Beach memories yourself. Or at least dozens, or hundreds. Hopefully, at least ten or twenty.
The following ain’t a quiz, exactly. It’s sort of ... well, it’s not a test, either. What it really is . . . is . . is . . . well, remember all those Surfin’ Safari albums people sent to Warner Bros, to get new copies of Surf’s Up with? The folks at Warner Bros, gave us 25 of them (actually, they gave us 50 but between their truly wrecked condition, and CREEM’s famous oldies thieves, we only have 25 usable ones for the auction . .. er . .. uh .. . giveaway) and threw in 10 copies of the new one, Carl and the Passions/Pet Sounds to sweeten the deal. So there are 25 prizes: the first ten get a scratchy copy of Surfin’ Safari and Carl and the Passions/Pet Sounds; the next fifteen only get Surfin ’ Safari.
The only rules are:
a.) You need not score 100% to win. In fact, you could win with way less than that because the contest is judged on the basis of 1) accuracy, 2) neatness and 3) general bizarritude.
b.) Deadline is August 15th; answers will be printed in the next issue. Winners names will be run in November issue. We mean Business on deadlines too.
c.) Ties: earliest postmark and best color ink wins.
d.) Not eligible: Brian Wilson, Kim Fowley, anyone in Ben Edmonds’ phone book. 1. Only one of the Beach Boys ever surfed much. Name him.
2. Name the kind of shirts the Beach Boys are wearing on the cover of both the Surfin’ Safari and Surfer Girl albums.
